The power of suggestion is extremely prevalent throughout Obama's website. "The problem" is stated before any statement about his "plan" on each issue. Our nation is not as broken as he makes it out to be. Even our economy is not as broken as he makes it out to be.
He is suggesting that he can "save" us, but we do not need to be saved. Power to the people. Our government is meant to be of the people--not of the president. "Vote for change"--much like the "vote for stupid" campaign on Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy--is a flawed motto. Is it change for the better? Change for the worse? Change in who has power? Change in what? A catch phrase without substance.

Good observation. I complain about various aspects of government activity quite often. But truth be told, I love our country, including the government. There is so much great about our government, and comparatively so little wrong. But the wrong is what we focus on in an effort to improve.
Although our country is wonderful, it is sad how much better it could be in so many ways. But given a choice between "changing" everything or keeping everything the same, I would definately have to vote for the status quo.
I agree that we focus on what isn't as good as we'd like it to be. And as you wrote, we do it naturally in an effort to improve. We don't need to feel guilty for focusing on the negative; however, we need to take time to dwell on the positive so that we don't lose sight of the good.
Hopefully the people of this great nation will be tapped into and we can create change for the better. In leiu of the election, I'd vote status quo over Obama's changes, but as it happens we can vote for good changes in a vote for McCain.
Sometimes I wonder if I really have any idea what I'm voting for, regardless of the research I've put in.
